Thirty-Third Spool of Thread-[Written/Action]

[Considering that the weather's fairly decent today, Shiki's decided today is a good day to spend outside. For anybody who's known her long enough, they might recognize the crate that she's sitting on as the one she used to use before the porch around the shop was built. Today, she's facing the shop and just looking it over, sketching out some things on a piece of paper. Soon enough though, she starts writing a message to the community]

I think I know the obvious answer, but where would be the best place to get fresh flowers when I'm ready for them? And, you know, planters and dirt and stuff.

Also, the spring line's just about finished if anybody needs something for the new season.

Well... Who did, huh?

*There's a long pause, as if she's thinking, or trying to remember.*

Yeah. Who did? Who lied to you so much that you decided everyone's a horrible person?

Unfortunately, I can't think of anyone who hasn't.

*Says this with her usual normal smile, as if she is totally unbothered.*

Explain that, since I don't think it works that way.

... Are you really asking for my whole life story?

Sure. I'm taking a break anyway.

So I guess the place to start would be my family, then?

It'd be a good start, probably. [She'll just go ahead and hop up on the counter to make herself comfortable.]

Let's see... Well, my mom's a neurologist. Studies the human mind, and she's one of the top in her field. She has to travel abroad a lot to work on her studies. Our family lives in Shibuya, but she spends half her time overseas to collaborate with other scientists and doctors. Her work's been published in just about every scientific journal that matters.

Dad does computers, and he's really good at it. Too good, really. No one understands how he does what he does, but he is probably one of the best programmers in the world. But that's just about all he knows. The stuff he works on tends to get taken by the companies that hire him, so he doesn't get much of the credit, and he can't figure out how to work solo and get the royalties he should get... Well, he's not interested in it, either, it feels like.

Were they doing all of that before you were born, or only after the fact?

Before. They were both those prodigy types you keep hearing about.

But anyway, you can imagine how parents with credentials like those would react to hearing that their child doesn't care about living up to those sorts of super-genius jobs, and instead just wants to be an actress.

...probably the same way mine reacted when I said I wanted to be a designer. Why did you choose to be an actress?

*There's a long pause before she answers. Shiki is somehow getting the most honesty out of her that she's given in a long time.*

I saw a fantasy movie on TV, when I was really little. I liked it. The people playing the characters managed to leave the real world, into a fantasy world where they could be princes and heroes and do anything they wanted. I tried getting lessons, and found I really did enjoy it.

[Shiki's just that good, you gotta admit.]

That's...a really long time to be dedicated to something like that. After the lessons did you actually start starring in things? [She's also being careful about how she's leading this conversation.]

*She is good, but she just hit a landmine. Paru isn't ready to admit her own shortcomings yet, and definitely not to Shiki, who she barely knows, and so out come the lies again... Though only in spirit, as none of what she says is actually a direct lie.*

Don't underestimate me! I'm beautiful, and skilled, what more could any actress need? I got my first starring role a few years ago.

The same thing any hard-working person in that kind of industry needs? Determination, drive, that sort of thing. But congratulations. What then?

*... She's not ready to give the full truth to anyone, yet, either. She'll give enough truth, though, to make sure her story holds water.*

I kept going to acting lessons, went through school. My parents said they'd support my decision, though I know they didn't like it. Eventually I dated a guy who went to the acting classes with me.

[Ah, Shiki won't push very much...yet.]

False hopes, I get it. Dated? How'd that get started, you just met and it clicked or...?

Yeah, that's right. It lasted about a year.

A year's a really long time to date somebody. But I'm just going to take a wild guess here and assume you broke up. Why? Artistic differences?

*And now she's going to get into the direct lies, albeit ones she can back up. She doesn't want to tell Shiki about this, but Shiki's been pretty good at being very distrusting, so it's best to reveal the lesser secret to better hide the big one. She'll just make the face right up there in the icon.*

I told him about my psychic powers.

...you don't have psychic powers, do you? [The problem with Shiki doing this is that she's dealt with Neku, Minato, and Haruki. She eventually gets everybody's stories out of them.]

*Paru responds by simply closing her eyes, and then in an instant, she's surrounded by a big green translucent bubble, roughly six feet in diameter.

Unfortunately, anything that was in that diameter would have been roughly shoved out of the way, and possibly sent flying. At least Paru had the decency to do it in a reasonably empty part of the floor.*
