[There's a bit of a static feed as the journal turns on, and Shiki doesn't say anything for a moment. She's busy reading over everything from the last few days, but she finally decides to talk to the village at large.]

It's fall now, isn't it? I should get back to decorating. So another question...favorite thing about Halloween? Decoration-wise, holiday-wise, anything. This is pretty important.

[Important in the sense that when she's done addressing the journal, she's busy flitting about her shop. She's been spending the last few days rearranging all of the furniture and putting up new shelves and such with Haruhi's help. And now. There are fake maple leaves all over the walls. And outside. Along with some cut-out paper pumpkins strung along the walls. Villagers are free to find her outside on the porch of All Passions staplegunning things to the building and such.]

You seem to bond with people pretty fast when a lot of your secrets about your home life are suddenly revealed thanks to the Malosso. Most of the people here seem to have formed a really cool community, everyone contributing in their own way. I guess it's just nice to see in comparison to a giant city like I'm used to. I mean I've been here for a few years but the novelty in that sense? Never wears off.

But I think everyone has people they'd love to see again. We just have to find a way.

Anyway...hi. I'm Shiki. I figured it'd be good to give a name after all of that.

I know what you mean. I'm used to big cities so a small town like this is a real change. Doesn't really feel small though. And wow, a few years? Sorry, I'm always surprised when I run into people that have been here for awhile. Not that it's a bad thing. I guess it makes me wonder where I'll be down the road.

I'm Ginia. Nice to meet you. You run one of the clothing stores, All Passions, right?

It's still a few hundred people which is nice, but I consider it big enough whe I don't know the name of every single person that lives here. And no it's okay, I know what you mean. I never thought I'd be around this long when I heard of other people being here for years.

Yeah that's right. It was one of the first things I got started here.

I wonder if anyone does? I only know a handful of people here myself.

I've looked around in there and I'm really impressed by the designs. Did you make them all?

It wouldn't surprise me if some of the older residents do, like Raine or Albert. They've been here forever.

I really do. I love some of the coats especially, very stylish, but functional.

If my sister ever shows up here, I'll have to introduce her to you. She really enjoys designing clothing and sewing too.

Really? Is she good at it? [Shiki likes meeting other seamstresses.]

I'm biased so the answer is yes, but she really is. Had steady work making costumes for one of the big theatre companies in our hometown and she made coats or dresses for our family every Christmas.

She sounds amazing. I'd love to meet her if I ever got the chance...I could probably learn so much from someone like her.

I'm pretty sure you could both learn things from each other. I'll let you know if she ever arrives. Her name is Amelia.

Yeah, Beat's a good friend of ours. I met him about the same time I met Neku...we've been pretty close since then.

That's good to hear. He's a good kid, I'm glad he has friends here.

Well I'm glad to hear he's making friends that aren't us. I don't know if you've ever noticed this, but Beat's...kind of special. Not that easy to get along with for most people.

The kid has heart and sincerity and that's what I like about him.

So I have to ask about the whole thing with the egg...

[There's another pause then, if only because she's busy laughing too hard.] Yeah about that....you have to promise not to tell him, okay?

All right, better. So what's the story?

Beat's really convinced that one of my best friends here laid an egg. Actually laid an egg. So Haruhi and I decided to hardboil an egg and slip it under him while he was asleep to make him think he was laying them, too. I mean it was kind of mean, but his face was kind of hilarious.

[Her writing becomes a little shakier as she begins shaking with laughter and trying to control herself.]

That's horrible, but I love it. Oh, poor Beat. I hope he's doing okay now?

And have to clarify here, Haruhi is a person, not a chicken?

He's not freaking out as much if that's what you mean, but I think he's still got that egg stored somewhere. He'll live.

Haruhi's definitely a person. Have you heard of the SOS Brigade at all since you've been here? That's her.

Just make sure it doesn't rot or anything. That might freak him out more.

I read about them in the guide and I've heard about them here and there. They hosted the Tanabata festival, right?

Then the whole village will have to hear him screaming about how he killed his kid. I know.

That's right. Haruhi's been running the Brigade for as long as I've known her. [And prior to that, Haruki was doing it. But it's better not to confuse new people with the he was a she bit.] They tend to throw a lot of events and parties during the year.
