Forty-Fifth Spool of Thread - [Voice/Action]

[There's a bit of a static feed as the journal turns on, and Shiki doesn't say anything for a moment. She's busy reading over everything from the last few days, but she finally decides to talk to the village at large.]

So. Hypothetical question. ...how long is too long to wait? For people, for objects, for anything. Give me your thoughts on this.

It's fall now, isn't it? I should get back to decorating. So another question...favorite thing about Halloween? Decoration-wise, holiday-wise, anything. This is pretty important.

[Important in the sense that when she's done addressing the journal, she's busy flitting about her shop. She's been spending the last few days rearranging all of the furniture and putting up new shelves and such with Haruhi's help. And now. There are fake maple leaves all over the walls. And outside. Along with some cut-out paper pumpkins strung along the walls. Villagers are free to find her outside on the porch of All Passions staplegunning things to the building and such.]

Forever, if need be.

They're keeping busy. It's kind of useless to just sit by the barrier and wait, right? But I would't call it really moving on.

I think if someone or something is important enough to someone, it's okay to wait forever.

At least they're living. A start. Though if the person just left, I think anyone would understand if they wanted to take time for themselves to think. Everyone deals differently with loss anyway and there's nothing wrong with that.

That's what I like to hear.

On the one hand, it's hard when people leave. I get that. On the other, it's not like they wouldn't see the people that left when they get home themselves. But who knows how long that'll be? That's where it gets weird, I think.

There are a lot of strange things once you begin to think about them. People coming from different points along the same timeline, why some people remember things when they return and others don't, time standing still here in relation to our worlds, a lot of weird things.

That's barely even the surface. When you start thinking about people coming from the same place but they're different versions of it, or when you find out some of your friends are apparently fictional characters in someone else's world? Then it gets kind of scary.

Have you been here very long?

It's crazy, but it's also amazing how all our worlds are... connected in these ways.

Just a little over two months now.

It's the kind of thing that gives you hope that we'll all be able to see each other again someday when we get out of here.

I agree. Even in my short time here... there's a lot of people I would really want to see again.

You seem to bond with people pretty fast when a lot of your secrets about your home life are suddenly revealed thanks to the Malosso. Most of the people here seem to have formed a really cool community, everyone contributing in their own way. I guess it's just nice to see in comparison to a giant city like I'm used to. I mean I've been here for a few years but the novelty in that sense? Never wears off.

But I think everyone has people they'd love to see again. We just have to find a way.

I know what you mean. I'm used to big cities so a small town like this is a real change. Doesn't really feel small though. And wow, a few years? Sorry, I'm always surprised when I run into people that have been here for awhile. Not that it's a bad thing. I guess it makes me wonder where I'll be down the road.

It's still a few hundred people which is nice, but I consider it big enough whe I don't know the name of every single person that lives here. And no it's okay, I know what you mean. I never thought I'd be around this long when I heard of other people being here for years.

Yeah that's right. It was one of the first things I got started here.

I wonder if anyone does? I only know a handful of people here myself.

I've looked around in there and I'm really impressed by the designs. Did you make them all?

It wouldn't surprise me if some of the older residents do, like Raine or Albert. They've been here forever.

I really do. I love some of the coats especially, very stylish, but functional.

If my sister ever shows up here, I'll have to introduce her to you. She really enjoys designing clothing and sewing too.

Really? Is she good at it? [Shiki likes meeting other seamstresses.]

I'm biased so the answer is yes, but she really is. Had steady work making costumes for one of the big theatre companies in our hometown and she made coats or dresses for our family every Christmas.

She sounds amazing. I'd love to meet her if I ever got the chance...I could probably learn so much from someone like her.

I'm pretty sure you could both learn things from each other. I'll let you know if she ever arrives. Her name is Amelia.

Yeah, Beat's a good friend of ours. I met him about the same time I met Neku...we've been pretty close since then.

That's good to hear. He's a good kid, I'm glad he has friends here.

Well I'm glad to hear he's making friends that aren't us. I don't know if you've ever noticed this, but Beat's...kind of special. Not that easy to get along with for most people.
